The North East Science Fair (NESF) is organized every year by National Science Centre, Guwahati as a part of its educational initiatives. Students from Classes VIII to XII representing all eight northeastern states—Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, and Sikkim—participated, with each state nominating five models/projects through their respective Education Departments or SCERTs.
The them of last year’s fair was "Science and Technology for Society", with sub-themes including:
- Food, Health and Hygiene
- Transport and Communication
- Natural Farming
- Disaster Management
- Mathematical Modelling and Computational Thinking
- Waste Management
- Resource Management
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Arup Kumar Misra, Chairman of the Pollution Control Board. Shri Vijay Shanker Sharma, former Director of NSC Guwahati, gave the welcome address.
A jury panel comprising eminent scientists and professors evaluated the student models. Tripura secured the first prize, followed by Manipur (second) and Sikkim (third).
A “Meet the Scientist” interactive session was held, followed by a valedictory function, where Dr. Anupam Saikia, Professor and Dean of Outreach Education, distributed prizes and certificates. The event also featured cultural programs, excursions to prominent places in Guwahati, a science show, and a science quiz to engage and inspire the participants.
