The Innovation Hub at the National Science Centre, Guwahati—operating under the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM)—is a dynamic initiative aimed at igniting curiosity and fostering creativity among young minds. Aligned with the Government of India’s declaration of 2010–2020 as the "Decade of Innovation," the Hub provides an encouraging environment and essential resources for students to explore, experiment, and develop innovative ideas in science and technology.Inaugurated on 4th February 2014 by Ms. Sindhushree Khullar, then Secretary of the Planning Commission, Government of India, the facility seeks to:

  • Actively engage youth in creative scientific pursuits
  • Promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Support the development and realization of innovative ideas
  • Encourage local innovations in science and technology (S&T)

The Hub features a range of interactive and educational spaces, including:

  • Hall of Fame - Multimedia kiosks showcasing inspiring stories of great inventors and groundbreaking inventions
  • Innovation Resource Centre - Access to e-journals, books, and grassroots innovation portals
  • Innovative Laboratory and Tech Lab - Hands-on learning spaces supporting interdisciplinary projects in areas such as robotics and microprocessor programming
A variety of hands-on, curiosity-driven activities are offered to nurture innovation:
    • "Thod Phod Jod" (Break & Remake) – Encourages students to disassemble and reassemble gadgets to understand their workings
    • "Kabad Se Jugaad" (Build from Scraps) – Inspires creative model-making using low-cost, recycled materials
    • "Idea Box" – A platform for students to submit original ideas, some of which may be developed into full-fledged projects
    • Make Your Own Science Kits – Enables learners to turn scientific concepts into working models
    • Problem Solving and Investigative Projects – Guides students to identify real-world problems, and undertake research-based projects under expert mentorship.

Together, these programs create a vibrant and supportive environment where young innovators are encouraged to think independently, explore deeply, and transform ideas into tangible outcomes.

Innovation Festival

The Innovation Festival is an annual event organized by the Innovation Hub, held every February on its premises. Spanning two days, the festival provides a common platform for innovators, artists, performers, crafters, science demonstrators, and others from diverse fields to showcase their creativity.

Innovators, students, and enthusiasts from across the northeastern states are invited to participate and present their innovations and creative works. There is no participation fee for the festival, making it an open and inclusive celebration of innovation and imagination.
